Kultursaloner

On the eve of the World Theatre Day, I learnt with deep shock the sad news of passing away of a dear friend of ours, Heino Byrgesen, former President of Danish centre of ITI. I have known him since mid 80s had the opportunity to work with him both in ITI Executive Council and ITI Communication Committee. He spoke very little but whatever he pointed out in meetings, had great significance. Soon he became a personal friend. We were always impressed by his wisdom, integrity and the will to carry forward the job assigned to him.
He visited Bangladesh several times as our guests in international conferences and made many friends. He was in love with Bangladesh. He used to read a Bangladeshi newspaper on the net daily and followed the political and cultural development of the country. Bangladesh theatre community has lost a real friend.
The world ITI has been made poorer with the exit of Heino from the world stage. He has left memories which we will cherish as long as we leave. Personally I feel like losing a very close friend to whom I could always open my mind.
On behalf of the ITI family I sincerely condole the death of Heino and offer deep sympathy to the bereaved family and Danish theatre community.
May his soul rest in peace.
Ramendu Majumdar, President worldwide International Theatre Institute

It is a great sadness to learn of Heino Byrgesen’s death.  Heino was a wonderful colleague and although we didn’t meet often over the last couple of years, a very dear friend.
Long-standing president of the Danish ITI Centre, Heino served for many years as member of the Worldwide ITI Executive council.  He was a mainstay of the its Communication Committee, making an enormous  behind-the-scenes contribution to ITI’s international publications.
Committed and sensitive, Heino never imposed but was always available with wisdom and friendly counsel when approached and on the spot  with practical and moral support when needed. I was privileged to experience this at first hand during my term as Secretary General. In 2011 he became one of the first to become a Member of Honour of ITI in recognition of his exceptional services to ITI Worldwide. I will miss him very much and would  like to express  my deep sympathy  with the Danish Centre – to Jan and Susanne – and the Danish theatre community.
Jennifer M Walpole, ITI Secretary General 2003-2008
